12E: Lihiwai Street, Liliuokalani Gardens
t am writing to provide my comments in favor of keeping Lihiwai Street cI®sed to
vehicular traffic. Our family has been enjoying jogging, biking, rotler~blading and
picnics in the park recently. We use the parts frequently and would like to see it remain
a safe and quiet haven away from cars.
The renovations at Lilioukalani Gardens have made the park even more beautiful than
it was before, beat more importantly have made the park more useful. It's now the ideal
place for families and children. The park is clean and safe. The closed-off portion of the
road provides an ideal place for children to ride their bikes, scooters and rolterblades.
[t's so nice tv have a place to go where you can let the children play without fear of
traffic.
Another thing we really appreciate is the clean air. Because there are no cars the air is
clean and you can smell the ocean instead of exhaust. Also the lack of cars driving past
rraakes the whole park more peaceful and quiet. You can enjoy the quiet instead of
having to listen to motors and boom-boxes as cars drive by.
Eliminating cars on Lihiwai Street has also greatly improved the view from inside the
park From almost any place in the park you can now enjoy a beautifa] ocean view. If
cars were to be allowed on the road again, wQ'd lose that. Instead of the glorious view
of Wilo Bay, we'd have a view of a street with cars.
In short, the park is now an ideal spot ¢or recreation as well as being a beautiful
attraction far visitors. Please don't spoil the park with cars! Keep the road closed and
let's use the open space for fun! We need the park-we don't need another road!
Sincerely,
