I am
Blane Yokota, Corporate Counsel testifying on behalf of Verizon Hawaii
("Verizon). Thank you for the opportunity to testify regarding Bill No. 29, Draft 2
"AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 19, OF THE HAWAII COUNTY CODE
1983 (1995 EDITION), RELATING TO REAL PROPERTY TAXES." It is a
distinct privilege to testify in support of Bill No. 29, Draft 2 which provides for the
automatic reinstatement of a real property tax exemption for utilities once the
state legislature passes and the governor signs into law the remedial legislation
which will effect a sharing of the Public Service Company Tax revenues collected
under HRS Section 239-5(a) and finally settle the long standing dispute between
the State and the Counties regarding real property taxation. Verizon appreciates
the time and effort devoted by Hawaii County and this council to negotiating the
final settlement reached by the parties.
Thank you again for the opportunity to provide testimony on this matter.
Comm.
