Some points regarding access to Liliuokalani Park: ~°~l t ' ~ t~
The ADA accessibility was paid for using federal funding. Did the CIS
include shutting down Lihiwai Street?
What input has been received from the Police Department regarding
their ability or inability to patrol this area?
What input has been received from the Fire Department regarding
emergency vehicle access?
We have a tourist economy and yet we are turning away the major
attraction to Hilo bay by not having tour bus access to the area. How
is this consistent with the increased tour boat activity and the
expansion of Hilo harbor?
Where do we replace the 4 ADA Parking stalls, ~7 regular parking
stalls and accommodations for at least 5 busses. The sidewalks were
widened to accommodate both pedestrians and traffic.
All County of Hawaii projects regarding ADA compliance must be
presented and approved by the Communications & Access hoard in
Honolulu in accordance with HRS requirements. No change in the
original evaluation has been requested of this agency. This park will
no longer be ADA compliant.
A majority of our senior citizens are limited in mobility. Check the
Parking Permits issued and you will find that this comprises
approximately 90 % of the issued ADA Parking Permits.
~ This side of the park is also used for weddings. Is the P&R
Department no longer permitting the park to be used for weddings,
as was the case in the past?
This is the ~®~R major acce~~ to the falcility as required by Federal Law.
Yet we are told that the County administration has already installed the
supports for the bollards to close off the road. Is this another law suit
waiting to happen? The last park access law suit cost the county plenty. ~3 p, Z9
