County and federal portions were both appropriated previously, but the bid price was higher than estimated and additional federal funds were required. This project proposes to replace an existing concrete bridge that is structurally and functionally deficient with a new concrete bridge that meets current standards. Since the county funds appropriated for this project will lapse on June 30, 2001 and in order to have adequate federal funds to encumber the contract, the Department of Public Works would like to request a waiver from the Finance committee and have this bill heard at the Council meeting scheduled for June 6, 2001. Lee Director of Public Works FtE: Request to Waive Finance Committee We are submitting the attached Request for Council Action to increase the federal portion of the Honomu/Mamalahoa Bridge Replacement project. County and federal portions were both appropriated previously, but the bid price was higher than estimated and additional federal funds are required. The county funds appropriated for this project will lapse on June 30, 2001, so we would like to execute the contract prior to that date. In order to have adequate federal funds to encumber the contract, the bill must be agendized for first reading at the June 6, 2001 Council meeting. We request that this appropriation bill be waived from Finance Committee.
