Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication No. 176, reports as follows:
Communication No. 176, transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim, dated April 3, 2001, nominates
Mr. Kelly Y. Kurakazu and Mr. George A. Harai to the Hawaii County Liquor Commission.
A lifetime resident of Hawaii, Mr. Kelly Y. Kurakazu is a School Food Service Manager for the
Department of Education, and is the owner of Kelly Boy's Bakery. Of no political party
affiliation, he will serve a term to end December 31, 2001.
A resident of Hawaii for 60 years, Mr. George A. Harai is employed by the Bishop Insurance
Agency. Mr. Harai has previously served on the Hawaii County Water Commission, and
currently serves as Director of the Kona Daifukuji Soto Mission. Of no political party affiliation,
he will serve a term to end December 31, 2005.
Pursuant to Article VII, Chapter 3, Section 7-3.2, Hawaii County Charter, there shall be a liquor
commission consisting of nine members who shall be appointed by the mayor and confirmed by
the council.
At the request of Your Committee, the correct end date of the term served by Mr. Kurakazu will
be verified by the administration prior to the next Council meeting.
Your Committee on Finance recommends the confirmation of Mr. Kelly Y. Kurakazu and
Mr. George A. Harai to the Hawaii County Liquor Commission.
