Holschuh, M.D. <br /> Emergency Physician, Hilo Medical Center <br /> Co»Chair Hilo Medical Center Committee on Domestic Violence <br /> SUBJECT: Permanent Funding for Domestic Violence Unit <br /> Chair Arakaki and Members of the Council, <br /> I have been an emergency physician at Hilo Medical Center for 25 ytars and sadly, have seen <br /> countless victims of domestic violence, with injuries ragging from bruises to death. Our <br /> community has been very proactive with the demonstration project through the prosecator's <br /> office. It is my impression, that although incidents of domestic violence continue, the response <br /> to assisting victims and addressing prosecution of and treatment for batterers has been very <br /> positive. I have attended a number of the Domestic Violence Interagency Team meetings and <br /> have been very impressed with the expertise and caring of the members of the DVTAT and the <br /> Domestic Violence Unit. <br /> I respectfully request that the Counci! provide permanent funding for the Domestic Violence <br /> Unit of the office of the Prosecuting Attorney.
