Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Resolution No. 39-01, transmitted
by Mayor Harry Kim per Communication No. 95, dated January 12, 2001, regarding the
naming of streets in the County of Hawaii, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 39-01 authorizes the approval of the street names for the roadways within
Pa`auilo Village, Pa`auilo Camp, and Nakalei Camp, Hamakua, Hawaii.
The Planning Commission at its December 15, 2000, meeting approved the names for the
roadways in Exhibit "A" as follows:
Pa`auilo Makai Road - traditionally used name; literally, Pa`auilo
Road towards the sea
Namilimili Lane - meaning pet, darling, beloved, admiration
Namilimili Road - meaning pet, darling, beloved, admiration
Pa`auilo Hui Road - meaning place to meet in Pa`auilo
Pa`auilo Hui Loop - meaning place to meet in Pa`auilo
Pa`auilo Paka Loop - traditionally used name; literally, Pa`auilo
Park Loop
Nakalei Loop - after Nakalei Camp, a historically used
name
Po`ehana Place - meaning working people

Hale Ho`okipa Place - meaning to entertain, visit, call, guest house,
inn
Ke`ehia Place - after the land division
Hauola Lane - after the land division
Hauola Road - after the land division
Pursuant to Section 22-35, Article 2, Chapter 22 of the Hawaii County Code, the
Council is authorized to adopt street names for Hawaii County's unnamed roadways.
Resolution No. 39-01, Draft 2, which included the macrons in Namilimili Lane and
Namilimili Road, was approved by Your Committee.
Committee Member Dominic Yagong expressed his gratitude to Dennis Fujii, the
Community Policing Officer who helped with the naming of the streets.
Your Committee did not entertain further discussion on this measure.
Your Committee on Planning concurs with the intent and purpose of Resolution
No. 39-01, Draft 2, and recommends its adoption.
