SUBJECT: TRAFFIC CODE AMENDMENT
Division 8. Restrictions on certain vehicles.
We were informed that the weight limit restrictions on Pakalana Street and Waipio Valley Access
Road are too low and should be increased to allow use by a 1-ton capacity truck.
We recommend a gross vehicle weight-rating (GVWR) limit of 10, 000 pounds because it is the
typical weight rating fora 1-ton capacity truck. The GVWR is stamped on a metal plate on the
inside of the driver door and will aid in the enforcement of the weight restriction.
The Hamakua Safety Council and the Hamakua Police concurred with the proposed weight limit.
We ask for your review and consideration for adoption of the subject amendment as described in
the attached draft for an ordinance. Should you have any questions, please contact Richard
