Irradlation of food for human and anima constunpUOn is authorized by
the Federal Food and Drug AdmlrusiraU< n and the United States
Department of Agriculture.
Our government, on occasion may seem .o do things that we do not
think fair, right or pro-business bu[ he citizens welfare is their
primary respons1b111ty.
if irradiation was so terrible the Urilted S fates would not allow this food
treatment nor would more than thirty oU ter countries permit irradiated
foods for human consrtmpuon. Astronat rs on Space Shuttle flights have
eaten irradiated meats.
Foods are not made radioactive t y irradiation tteatmentl
I do not believe that the Post-Harvest 'IYc atment facllity will beneRt a

AssociaUOn.
The entire island would benefltt
Wood irradiation can control Trlchtnella . piralis in pork, and provide
microbial disaffection. Meats and t3sh can be radiation sterilized.
Sterilization with radiation could ellmJna a or at least significantly reduce
nitrite used 1n meat processing. Sterilize tlon of milk could rxtend shelf-
llfe without refiigeration.
The length of time that transportation an d storage would not result to
loss due to spoilage. Hawall produce anc ~ meats could be shipped out of
state and countryt
Cattle farmers could make a comeback o i the Blg Island. P1g farmers,
dairies and the transportation sector wot ld benefit from irradiation.

The newly hired or those with improved incomes would market in our
stores that would be revenue for the business. People could afford to
go to movies, entertain, drive their cars buying fuel at the sc:vice
station would bt extra sales for that business, perhaps create mere Jobs
and tax dollars for our county and for our State, iticryone will benefit
fi om Mayor Yamsshiro's treatment facilityl
'Ihe Job market would improve, incomes rould be higher and our
standard of living would be betted
