I am opposed to the proposed irradiation plant for the Island of
Hawai"i. 'There arc many health, environmental and safety concerns that
are major deterrents Cor this project. I will not detail all of these issues
because 1 am sure that you have heard them. I am not ascientist--1 do
not have relevent empirical evidence to contribute as an argument against
this project. In tact, I believe that there arc so many unknown variables
and so many possible Interpretations of the available evidence, both pro
and con food irradition, that 1 cannot understand how you can possibly
make a responsible decision to move ahead with this project.
Please let the economic growth and development of this island occur with
integrity and at a pare that matches our scx~ial and economic growth and
abilltles -and that protects our environment. Please do not move forward
on this project.
