Your Committee on Parks & Environmental Management, to which was referred Communication No. 173,
reports as follows:
Communication No. 173 is transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim, dated April 2, 2001, nominating the following
individuals to the Hawaii County Veterans Advisory Committee.
Morris I. Kihara is a lifelong resident of Hawaii. Mr. Kihara is also a member of the Disabled American
Veterans, as he was combat wounded and awarded the Purple Heart in 1943. He also serves as Treasurer of
the Hawaii Aikane Club. Mr. Kihara states that he is not affiliated with any political party and will serve a
term to expire on December 31, 2005.
Wendall E. K. Kekumu is an 11-year resident of Hawaii. Mr. Kekumu is also a member of the Veterans of
Foreign Wars and the Big Island Veterans Association. Mr. Kekumu states that he is not affiliated with any
political party and will serve a term to expire on December 31, 2005.
Paul K. Johnston is a lifelong resident of Hawaii. Mr. Johnston is a veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam
Wars. He has served as the representative on this commission and is being recommended for reappointment.
Mr. Johnston states that he is not a member of any political party and will serve a term to expire on
December 31, 2005.
Your Committee on Parks and Environmental Management recommends the approval of the nominations of
Morris I. Kihara, Wendall E. K. Kekumu, and Paul K. Johnston to the Hawaii County Veterans Advisory
Committee.
