Your Committee on Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations, to which was referred
Communication No. 234 and attached Bill No. 69, reports as follows:
The purpose of Bill No. 69 is to amend Chapter 24 of the Hawaii County Code 1983 (1995
Edition), relating to Vehicles and Traffic by addang a bus stop along Route 11 by Yano Hall and
the Manago Hotel in Captain Cook, South Kona.
Communication No. 234 is from Deputy Director Galen Kuba, dated May 15, 2001, transmitting
Bill No. 69 for the Council's review and consideration. In his letter, Mr. Kuba states that a bus
stop in this location will provide a safe area for riders to wait and board the county bus.
According to Mr. Kuba, the request to add this bus stop was made by the Mass Transportation
Agency. This request, a letter dated April 5, 2001 from Tom Brown, Director of the Mass
Transportation Agency, is also attached.
In discussion, Councilmember J. Curtis Tyler III requested that the Department of Public Works
consult with individual district council members about pending or proposed legislation- before it
reaches the committee level for discussion.
Your Committee is in accordance with the purpose and intent of Bill No. 69, and recommends
that it pass first reading.
