Your Committee on Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations, to which was referred
Communication No. 235 and attached Bill No.70, reports as follows:
The purpose of Bill No. 70 is to amend Chapter 24 of the Hawaii County Code 1983 (1995
Edition), relating to Vehicles and Traffic by converting an existing bus stop located on Sarona
Road in South Kona to afreight-loading zone.
Communication No. 235 is from Deputy Director Galen Kuba, Department of Public Works,
dated May 15, 2001, transmitting Bill No. 70 for the Council's review and consideration. In his
letter, Mr. Kuba states that this bus stop area is now used for loading activities. According to
Mr. Kuba, the request for the conversion was made by the Kona Traffic Committee. This
request, a letter dated April 9, 2001 from Ann Peterson, Chair of the Kona Traffic Safety
Committee, is also attached.
Your Committee is in accordance with the purpose and intent of Bill No. 70, and recommends
that it pass first reading.
