Dear Chairman Arakaki and Council Members:
It is my pleasure to nominate Ms. Lisa Barton to serve on the County of Hawaii
Reapportionment Commission to fill the vacancy created by Ms. Antoinette
Bello's resignation.
Ms. Barton represents Council District 1 and is a 22-year resident of Hawaii. .
Ms. Barton is currently apart-time swim coach and a substitute teacher for the
State of Hawaii Department of Education. She is also a property manager for
William Pape. Her community service activities include being a Laupahoehoe
Volunteer Fire Fighter, and serving with organizations such as the Laupahoehoe
Train Museum, the North Hilo Community Council, and the Ookala Community
Forest. Ms. Barton states that she is not affiliated with any political party. If
confirmed, she will serve a term to expire on December 31, 2001.
Due to the short term of this commissioner, it is requested that this appointment
be waived from committee and taken up at the County Council meeting
scheduled for July 31, 2001.

Pursuant to Section 1(g) of Rule 4 of the Rules of Procedure of the Council of the County of
Hawaii, this written request is submitted with my approval that the above-referenced matter be
waived from the Committee on Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations to the full
Council for immediate action. In reviewing this matter, timely approval is crucial. It is therefore
advantageous that approval is granted and the matter placed onto the next Council agenda for
review. However, in the event this request is denied, for whatever reason, I understand the
matter shall be referred to the Committee on Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations for
placement on its future agenda.
