Dear Chairman Arakaki and Council Members:
It is my pleasure to nominate the following individuals to the County of Hawaii
Transportation Commission.
Council ®istrict 1 - Ms. Beverly Namakakehau Chrisman is a lifelong resident
of Hawaii and is an Employment Service Specialist with the State Workforce
Development Division. She is a volunteer with the State Division of Forestry and
Wildlife and a volunteer Hunter Education Instructor with the State Division of
Conservation and Resource Enforcement. Ms. Chrisman states that she is not
affiliated with any political party. If confirmed, she will serve a term to expire on
December 31, 2005.
Council ®istrict 8 - Ms. Gretchen S. Lawson is a 17 year resident of Hawaii.
She currently serves as the Executive Director for the Kona Association for
Retarded Citizens. Ms. Lawson presently is active with the State of Hawaii's
Disability and Communications Board, Kona Outdoor Circle, and Managing
Information on Rural America (MIRA). She has served with the Hawaii
Association of Rehabilitation Services, the League of Women Voters, and she
has co-chaired the West Hawaii Health and Human Services Council. Ms.
Lawson states that she is not affiliated with any political party. If confirmed, she
will replace Earl Eckhart and serve a term to expire on December 31, 2003.

Council Cistrict 9 ~ Mr. Peter S. Hoffman is a four year resident of Hawaii.
Mr. Hoffman is a retired army colonel and has also served as Chief of Mission
Support for the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe. He
currently serves as the Editor for the Waikoloa Village Association Newspaper
and chairs the Waikoloa Governmental Affairs Committee. Mr. Hoffman states
that he is not affiliated with any political party. If confirmed, he will serve a
position to expire on December 31, 2001, which was vacated by George
Nakashima.
