Dear Chairman Arakaki and Council Members:
It is my pleasure to nominate Mr. Yoshiichi "Joe" Tanaka of Council District 3 to
the Hawaii County Salary Commission. Mr. Tanaka is a lifelong resident of
Hawaii. He is retired from the State Department of Education but still performs
contract work as a counselor. He is a past chair and board member of the Big
Island Educational Federal Credit Union. He is current president of the Hawaii
District, Hawaii State Teacher's Association (HSTA) Retirees, as well as a
Retiree Director for the HSTA Member Benefit Corporation. He also serves as
treasurer for the Hilo Hongwanji Hoyukai. Mr. Tanaka states that he is not
affiliated with any political party. If confirmed, he will serve a term to end on
December 31, 2005. He will fill a vacancy created by the expiration of
Commissioner Barry Mizuno's term.
