HALSTED TO THE COUNTY OF HAWAII LIQUOR CONTROL ADJUDICATION BOARD From Mayor Harry Kim, dated July 18, 2001, submitting the following name for confirmation to serve on the Liquor Control Adjudication Board: Mr. Douglas L. Halsted, a 42-year resident of Hawaii and a self-employed attorney. He represents Council District 4 and is not affiliated with any political party. Mr. Halsted will be replacing Leinaala B. Enos, whose term expired on December 31, 2000. If confirmed, he will serve a term to expire on December 31, 2005. Halsted to the Liquor Control Adjudication Board as follows: 1. Mr. Halsted represents Council District 3 instead of Council District 4. 2. The name of Dudley Akama was misspelled in the cc portion of the letter. Comm. 272: APPOINTMENT OF YOSHIICHI "JOE" TANAKA TO THE HAWAII COUNTY SALARY COMMISSION From Mayor Harry Kim, dated July 18, 2001, submitting the following name for confirmation to serve on the Salary Commission: Mr. Yoshiichi "Joe"Tanaka, of Council District 3 and a lifelong resident of Hawaii. He is retired from the State Department of Education but still performs contract work as a counselor. States he is not affiliated with any political party. If confirmed, he will serve a term to end on December 31, 2005. He will fill a vacancy created by the expiration of Commissioner Barry Mizuno's term. Comm. 269: REQUEST BY THE HAWAII GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES ASSOCIATION RETIREES UNIT TO CONTINUE SUPPORT OF SENIOR CITIZEN CENTERS From Elmer Yuen, President, and George Yamamoto, Executive Secretary, HGEA-AFSCME, Local 152, AFL-CIO, Retirees Unit, dated July 9, 2001, expressing appreciation of efforts of the Council and staff in providing meaningful activities for them; however, expressed concern that many activities may be eliminated because of anticipated budget shortfalls. They also encourage the seeking of Federal and/or national grants so that programs for seniors can be enhanced. Attaches copy of their Resolution No. 2, adopted at its 14th Biennial General Assembly, encouraging the counties to continue to support senior citizen centers. Comm. 273: RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF A (Res. 100-O1) DONATION OF $1200 TO THE DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION'S RECREATION DIVISION (from the Pana'ewa Hawaiian Home Lands Community Association, to provide additional recreational activities and classes for its community members especially the keikis at the Pana'ewa Park) From Director of Finance William Takaba, dated July 11, 2001, transmitting the above resolution. The increase in revenue will come from the gate admission and participant fees and will be used to cover the cost of hosting this national competition. Only limited funds were available in the Aquatics Division budget to purchase the materials, supplies and services needed for this event.
