We are writing to each of you, to inform you of mt~ sw7 wpposiiilon
to an irradiation plant being built here on this islanpp~Q1+~1~D~2FA~A~j~jA~1

want b2 million dollars of our mmey to to spent on s facility. The
guise is to boost the local eocnarry. This is not based on factual data.
'There are groups fran the mainla;x] & Japan that have stated that they
will STRCT]GI,Y boycott any irradiated foods. 'The only plant in the U.S.
that irradiates food is running in the red, by millions of dollars. the
remainder of them irradiate medical supplies, etc. The feasibility of
building this facility based just on this information is enough to
not invest CiAt county dollars. The only persons that will ecwtanically
gain frcm such a proposal are the persons hired to do studies, consultants
and the construction canpanies. Not the people on this island. The farmers
who g~ tropical fruits want to broaden their market, but at whose
expense? Ours, as we have to live with the plant which contains dangerous
nuclear material. We import a HUGH amount of food from other places. I
would much rather see this $2 million dollars be set up to help local
farmers with growing food for this island and others. Stich as low
interest loans, support systems for areas to get their produce to market
etc... the same kind of low interest loans the big corporations get, like
C. Brewer with the sugar production. Why is it that big Wrporations get
the support and the people of this island are the cries that have to
struggle. Tt seams Lhat b2 million dollars would help support the areas
of this island that are agricultural and arE devastated by the closing
of sugar. These are just a FFw reasonable items concerning why an
irradiation plant should not be built. Please do rwt consider using our
money on such a foolish venture.
