Subject: Bills to Establish Bus Fares
On August 14, 2001, two bills are on the Finance Committee agenda, one is to establish a
bus fare between Ocean View Estates and Kona, and the other to establish a bus fare
from North and South Kona to Keahole Airport. Unfortunately, I will be unable to attend
the meeting due to my being off-island.
If the items need to be deferred, I will understand. However, if the items are passed and
moved to full Council, I can attend that meeting and be available to respond to any
questions or comments that may arise.
For Council-members desiring information on how fares are established, the County
operates on a zone fare system where fares increase the farther the distance traveled.
Each zone is approximately 7-10 miles. The cash fare per zone is $.75, but with pre-paid
fare discounts, the fare per zone is $.50.
