Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 317-00, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 317-00, transmitted by Mayor Stephen K. Yamashiro, via Communication No.
899, dated August 15, 2000, authorizing the sale of grant of easement for Telecommunications
Tower purposes situate at Pepe`ekeo and Makahanaloa, South Hilo, Hawaii,
TMK: 3 `d/2-8-07:70(Portion).
The County of Hawaii is the owner of that certain parcel of land described as the Kulaimano
Park site situate at Pepe`ekeo and Makahanaloa, South Hilo, Hawaii, known as Pu`u `Alala.
USCOC of Hawaii 3, Inc., d.b.a. U.S. Cellular, has expressed an interest in constructing a 250
foot Tower at Pu`u `Alala. Based on its location and height it is a desirable location for the
placement of antennas to maximize range and signal strength.
Pursuant to Section 2-111, Hawaii County Code, the council may, by resolution, as approved by
a majority of its members, direct the finance director and is hereby authorized to sell at public
auction.
Originally heard on September 6, 2000, this measure was deferred pending additional research
and drafting.
Your committee recommends Resolution No. 317-00 be filed based upon a new bill that is
forthcoming.
Your Committee on Finance is not in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 317-
00 and recommends it be filed.
