Your Committee on Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations, to which was referred Communication No. 271
reports as follows:
Communication No. 271 is transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim dated July 18, 2001 nominating the following
individuals to the Hawaii County Transportation Commission.
Beverly Namakekahu Chrisman, is a lifelong resident of Hawaii and is currently employed as an Employment
Service Specialist with the State Workforce Development Division. She is not affiliated with any political party and
will serve a term ending December 31, 2005.
Gretchen S. Lawson, is a l7 resident of Hawaii and currently serves as the Executive Director of the Kona
Association for Retarded Citizens. She is not affiliated with any political party and will serve a term ending
December 31, 2003.
Peter S. Hoffman, is a four-year resident of Hawaii and is a retired army colonel and has served as Chief of Mission
Support for the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe. He is not affiliated with any political party
and will serve a term ending December 31, 2001.
Communication No. 271. I from Wendell Hatada, Executive Assistant, Office of the Mayor, requested that the
nomination of Ms. Chrisman be postponed until August 14, 2001 because she was unavailable to attend any
Committee or Council meetings from July 29 through August 4, 2001. However, after conferring with Mr. Hatada,
Chair Elarionoff requested that the Committee approve all of the nominations and suggested that Ms. Chrisman be
present at the August 15, 2001 Council meeting to answer any questions the Councilmembers may have.
Mr. Hatada was in agreement with this request.
At the meeting, Councilmembers Tyler, Yagong, Jacobson and Chair Elarionoff spoke in favor of these
appointments.
Your Committee on Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations recommends the approval of the nominations of
Ms. Beverly Namakekahu Chrisman, Ms. Gretchen S. Lawson and Mr. Peter S. Hoffman to the Hawaii County
Transportation Commission.
