Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication No. 272, reports as follows:
Communication No. 272, transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim, dated July 18, 2001, nominates
Mr. Yoshiichi "Joe" Tanaka of Council District 3 to serve on the Hawaii County Salary
Commission. Mr. Tanaka would replace Mr. Barry Mizuno, whose term expired.
A lifetime resident of Hawaii, Mr. Yoshiichi "Joe" Tanaka is retired from the State Department
of Education but still performs contract work as a counselor. He is a past chair and board
member of the Big Island Educational Federal Credit Union and current president of the Hawaii
District, Hawaii State Teacher's Association (HSTA) Retirees, as well as a Retiree Director for
the HSTA Member Benefit Corporation. Of no political party affiliation, he will serve a term to
end December 31, 2005.
Pursuant to Section 13-28, Hawaii County Charter, the salary commission shall consist of nine
members appointed by the mayor with the approval of the council.
Your Committee on Finance recommends the confirmation of Mr. Yoshiichi "Joe" Tanaka to the
Hawaii County Salary Commission.
