SUBJECT: TAXI DRIVERS/HELE-ON ISSUE
FROM: PRIVATE TAXI OPERATORS (COMMERCIAL)
1. It has become relevant that the HELE-ON
BUS have been operating Bus transportation
service to the visitors arriving in the
KUHIO WHARF via the OCEANLINERS. Evidently,
this service by the HELE-ON is from the
wharf to destinations at hilo proper.
2. With this service, it deprives the TAXI
OPERATORS of this type of livelihood.
Evidenh~-y~ when this type of transportation
service by the HELE-ON was initiated, the
COUNTY did not entertain a meeting with the
TAXI DRIVERS/OWNERS of a possible compromise.
3. Question arises: Is the HELE-ON also to
provide service to the Aircraft Visitors
& locals at the Airport?
TAXI ENTERPRISE is our livelihood. This type
of service will have a very "drastic economic
set-back on our business".
Remember, we are being assessed fees to operate
a Taai,. not to mention the high cost of Insurance
"IS THIS FAIR"?
