Dear Chairman Arakaki and Members:
I am pleased to inform you that, effective September 1, 2001, I am appointing Galen Kuba on
temporary assignment to be the Director of Environmental Management. Mr. Kuba is the
division chief of the Engineering Division, and is presently serving as the acting Deputy
Director of the Department of Public Works. Before assuming control of the Engineering
Division, he was in charge of the Solid Waste Division.
Mr. Kuba brings years of valuable experience in the Department of Public Works to the
position, and I look forward to working with him in this new capacity. I also look forward to
persuading him to accept the position on a permanent basis in the future, at which time I will
present his appointment to you for your confirmation.
