PRESENTATION BY MR. HARRISON BRIGHT RUE, DIRECTOR OF THE CITIZEN
PLANNING INSTITUTE, WHO WILL OFFER A SLIDE SHOW PRESENTATION ON
THE PRINCIPLES OF NEW t1RBANISM, SMART GROWTH AND COMMUNITY-
BASED PLANNING FOR ECONOMIC REVITALIZATION AND PLANNING
LINKING TRANSPORTATION, LAND USE AND ENVIRONMENT. MR. RUE
CURRENTLY SERVES ON THE SMART GROWTH STEERING COMMITTEE OF
THE HAWAII STATE OFFICE OF PLANNING. HIS CURRENT PROJECTS
INCLUDE HONOLULU'S PRIMARY URBAN CENTER DEVELOPMENT PLAN, AN
ISLANDWIDE "TRAFFIC CALMING PROGRAM, AND COMMUNITY-BASED
PLANNING FOR MAUI, HAWAII, AND RURAL OAHU. HIS TRAINING
HANDBOOK, REAL TOWNS: MAKING YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD WORK, WAS
RECENTLY PUBLISHED BY THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT COMMISSION.

revitalization and community-based planning and presently serves
on the Smart Growth Steering Committee of the Hawaii State
Office of Planning.
