NAMING A STREET IN THE COUNTY OF HAWAII, STATE OF HAWAII
WHEREAS, the Council of the County of Hawaii is authorized to adopt a street name
for an unnamed roadway in the County of Hawaii pursuant to Section 22-35, Article 2,
Chapter 22, Relating to Streets and Sidewalks and Section 23-49, Chapter 23, Relating to
Subdivisions, Hawaii County Code; and
WHEREAS, the County of Hawaii is constructing a new road extending mauka from
Mohouli Street at its intersection with Komohana Street to connect with `Ainako Avenue at its
intersection Uluwai Street, Ponahawai, South Hilo; and
WHEREAS, Section 23-49 of the Subdivision Code states in part "that identical or similar
names may be used to name extensions of existing streets. Street names shall conform to the
adopted policy of the County and shall be subject to the approval of the commission and
adoption of same by the council;" and
WHEREAS, the portion of `Ainako Avenue from its intersection with Kaumana Drive to
its intersection with Uluwai Street is being reconstructed to the same specifications of the new
road becoming functionally part of this new extension and more properly re-named as part of this
new extension; and
WHEREAS, the Planning Commission at its regular meeting of July 20, 2001, approved
the name for the new roadway extension and the re-naming of a portion of `Ainako Avenue in
accordance with the County's adopted Street Naming Policy; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that said
roadway, as indicated on Exhibit "A" of this Resolution, be named as follows:
"Mohouli Street" - Extension of an existing street
