Re: public transportation at the airports
Dear Council Members,

Many are concerned about this issue and its importance to our econ~my..`~~-~

It is important to note that both the services of the taxi industry and the
public transportation system are needed at our airports. Both serve different
markets and both are important to bring Hawaii County up to a necessary
level of transportation for all.
I'resentiy Hawaii County cannot offer public transportation to the airports.
This is a terrible image to project to visitors and residents alike. The two
services are compatible here as well as most airports throughout the world.
I believe it would be a terrible mistake for the council to fail to provide
public transportation to the airports.
Additionally, since public transportation is a service, it requires adequate
promotion to bring use and revenues up to acceptable levels. In the past, ,
Mass Transit has not had sufficient funding to properly advertise and
promote the use of the Hele-®n system. As a result, it has failed to generate
sufficient use to increase adequate revenues. I would respectfully ask the
Council to look into the matter of promotion.
In closing, I would suggest that the public at large favors bus service to the
airports and that it be recognized and provided. ~ .
