Council Chair and Members Hawaii County Council Hilo, Hawaii 96720 Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Bill No. 83, reports as follows: Bill No. 83, transmitted by Tom Brown, Transit Administrator, via Communication No. 285, dated July 24, 2001, amends Chapter 18, Article 4, Division 1, Section 18-92 of the Hawaii County Code 1983 (1995 Edition), relating to Public Transportation. Bill No. 83 proposes revised bus fare schedule for Keahole to North and South Kona. The proposed bus fare schedule to read as follows: FARE SCHEDULE A Keahole Keahole .75 Honaunau 3.00 Capt. Cook Kealakekua 2.25 Kainaliu, Honalo Kailua, Keauhou 1.50 The Mass Transit Agency plans to implement bus service from North and South Kona to the Kona International Airport. Some members of Your Committee expressed concerns over bus services going into the Kona International Airport, as business may be taken away from the taxi drivers. As a result, members of Your Committee recommended that the Council take this matter up at the West Hawaii Council meeting on September 25, 2001. Transit Administrator Tom Brown transmitted a memo dated August 12, 2001, notifying Your Committee that he will unable to attend today's Finance Meeting, however will be available to answer any questions if this measure moves to full Council.
