l had originally intended to be present on September 12, 2001 at
your council meeting to spear in favor of the resolution supporting Aloha
Festivals 2001 Ho'ohanohano I Na ~Ialokai ~ Donor tl~.e voyagers. However,
ixi light of today's acts of terrorism on the mainland, I am unable to travel to
Hilo tomorrow as plarlr~ed.
As 2001 President of Aloha Festi~rals, now in its 55*~ year, l want to
take this opportunity to urge passage of the resolution as presented. As our
state economy continues to strlaggle, this resolution showing your continued
support of Aloha Festivals, as well as your annual financial support, is gxeatly
appreciated. Without such support, it is highly unlikely that we would be able
to stage the high quality number of events that we currently do on the Island
and County of Ha~vai'i for our residents and visitors alike. The measure of our
success is indicated by the r~uznber of people who attend and participate in our
events in Hilo, 'UVaimea, the Kohala Coast, Kailua-Kona and KEauhou_ The
numbers contixtuc to grow annually. With your continued support and
encouragement, Aloha Festivals will be able to enhance the number and quality
of our events .in an effort to fulfill our mission:

To perpetuate Hawaiian culture, traditions, custorris and aloha
spia`it, to educate our residents ar~d visitors about them, and to invite all ethnic
groups in Hawaii to celebrate the spirit of aloha.
