Aloha Mr. Chung and Councilmembers,
I am writing to ask for your support for building an irradiator
here nn the Big Island.
I am a fruit farmer, born and raised in Hawaii. I support a fruit
fly irradiation deinfestation facility for export of my crops to the
mainland. I presently farm 100 acres of rambutan, lychee, starfruit
and other fruits in the Kurtistown area.
An irradiation processing facility will help build our
agricultural exports and community. Agricultural lands could be
developed with opportunities for large and small scale farmers. If we
can export, we can make it as farmers, and keep East Hawaii rural.
After reading all the material and exploring all the information
I can find on this topic, I have found that this facility is very safe for
our community.
Please give us farmers a chance to export our unique crops and
commodities to mainland markets. Let's take this opportunity to
support our farming community, build our agricultural sector,
expand commercial use of our airport, and put new life into the
struggling East Hawaii economy.
Pease support the proposed irradiator, and vote YES on April
2 4!
Sincerely, ~ ~ ~
