A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A NATIONAL KOREAN WAR MUSEUM IN WAIKOLOA, HAWAII. WHEREAS, over fifty years ago while still emerging as a democratic nation, communism became an imminent threat to South Korea; and WHEREAS, to preserve the ideals of freedom and democracy in its infancy underway in South Korea, the United States of America answered their call for help; and WHEREAS, over 53,000 soldiers, many of those from Hawaii, paid the ultimate price with their lives so that others may be free; and WHEREAS, over six million soldiers participated in events that helped to ensure that South Korea would be allowed to practice democracy as a nation; and WHEREAS, a museum to permanently record the history of this war is planned for Waikoloa, Hawaii; and WHEREAS, Mr. John K. Baldwin, in honor of his Father and Uncle who served during this era, has donated 14 acres to make this vision possible; and WHEREAS, unlike other monuments in the United States, this museum will be unique because it will not only memorialize these veterans, but also tell the full story of their courageous efforts and the great significance of this mission; and WHEREAS, the National Museum will contain a replica of a Small Korean Village and thirty-eight "Halls of Remembrance" that will each portray a different theme about the war; and WHEREAS, one important phase of the museum will be the Korean War Wall of Honor, which will contain the names of all those who served in this war; and WHEREAS, this museum will also be a depository for artifacts from the war and a site for scholarly research. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HAWAII COUNTY COUNCIL that we support the establishment of the National Korean War Museum in Waikoloa, Hawaii; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council recognizes the importance of honoring and preserving the memory of all veterans who have unselfishly sacrificed in the name of democracy and freedom for the entire world to see. BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii transmit copies of this resolution to Mr. Casey K. Choi, Chairman, Board Of Trustees, National Korean War Museum; Mr. Kyle Kopitke, Member, Board Of Trustees, National Korean War Museum; Mr. Francis Pacheco, Member, Board of Trustees, National Korean War Museum, Mr. Calvin Sueda, President, Korean War Veterans of I-Iawaii, Hilo Chapter; Mr. Buzz Aldrin, Honorary National Spokesperson, National Korean War Museum and Mr. John K.
