Aloha Mayor Ism,
After church service yesterday my wife and I went to one of the many wonderful restaurants Isere or?. our
South .Kohala Coast. There was no one else in the restaurant when we arrived and after a leisurely lunch
. there was r~o one else there when we left! ! This is serious! ! This is very serious! ! We are told, although
this in eaot conflrroed, that one of our hotels here ors the Kohala Coast is totally closed down. We axe also
told that two restaurants ias another of our zoajor hotels have closed.. Very possibly, this list is actually
much longer_
avanething has to be done and soanething has to be done very soon Think of all of the hotel workers,
think of all of our excellent restaurants, think of our ftsherissea who supply fresh fish .each day to our
hotels and restaurants, Chiral., of our farmers who suplydp fresh prodtut daily to our hotels and restaura~zts,
think of the car rental coanpanies, think of our tour operators, thizak of our small shop owners who cater
to our tourist isadus~y. This list could goon and. on....
l'' I propose that ALLairlines that fly to the I3ig Island from t~.sia and the. U.S. Mainland be contacted and
h ` asked to reduce their rates by otae.hal£.:It seeans to lase that frill planes at half fare are atsuch better off

I pz~opose that ALL.of our hotels, coupled with these Airlines offer half rates for their rov~rss. again, it
seems to me that a full hotel at half;pricc is bester~than a hotel~that is over half easapty.
We have to get people back is those airplaares. My pr®posals will.be an incentive for people to get past
the fear of flly~g agaaxa. This program could be done month by momh until things get back to normal.
Whatever is done it has to be done NOW. We caasnot wait. Our dig Island people are already hurting.

own back yards and pick flowers and make leis tv be delivered at a certain
time and date t® the maiDtland.
This could be a win-win situation.
We the people ®t I-Hawaii would show the people of the rest of the country that
once again the people of t°Iawaii are involved in this tragic situation. And
that once again we are r~dy tv snow our spdrlt of Aloha.
We could have a contingent of state tepees@niatives and just IoCalS deliver
the leis to these people.
If we worked with the airlines we could get free or reduced Shipping for the
leis and Blowers. We Gould also advertise for those that would like to

visiting these different locals. !t would show the people there that we are
