RE: Bill #62 RELATING TO THE POSTHARVEST
TREATMENT FACILITY PROJECT
Beso]ution #71 (ON A RELATED ISSUE)
Public Hearing Apri124, 1997 - 8:00 AM
County Council Chambers
Honorable Chair and Members of the Committee:
My name is Keith Ideue and I am President of the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and
Industry of Tlawaii.
The undersigned business organization is a member of the Big Island Business Council,
which has for many years provided strong support to expansion of diversified agriculture
and promotion of the agricultural indusriy through valued-added and export market
expansion.
The bill before you will provide a singular opportunity to advance I3awau's diversified
agricultural products to the mainland global market. Monocrop corporate agriculture
practiced by the plantations is in transition to thousands of new agricultural acres,
hundreds of crop, products and processing options. It is essential for us to consider all
options for product development, and to establish a strong marketing program for our
established farmers and new entrepreneurs many of whom are dispLviced sugar workers).
W e urge your favorable consideration of this bill, and thank you for the opportunity to
submit these comments.
Yours sincerely,
Keith Ideue, President
Jap ancsc Chamber of Gvmmercc and IndustrJ~ of Hawaii
