SUBJECT: TRAFFIC CODE AMENDMENT - HONAUNAU BEACH ROAD:
1. PROPOSED 15MPH SPEED LIMIT
2. PROPOSED ONE-WAY TRAFFIC PATTERN
3. PROPOSED NO PARKING ZONES
The residents of Honaunau Bay in corporation with the Kona Traffic Safety Committee are requesting
various traffic code amendments to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety for residents and tourists
(see attached).
We have been in contact with the Kona Police Department and they concur with these proposals (see
attached).
We ask for your review and consideration for adoption of the subject amendment as described in the
attached draft for an ordinance. Should you have any questions, please contact Richard Nishimura,
Traffic Division Chief, at 961-8341.
A location map is attached.

This acknowledges your memorandum of July 27, 2001 requesting our comments
on the subject request.
According to Captain Dawrs, Commander of our Kona Patrol District, the request
for establishing the one way pattern on Honaunau Beach Road and a signed
petition were brought before the Kona Traffic Safety Committee by residents of
the beach road. The Kona Traffic Safety Committee is in favor of the request for
a one way pattern and added signs.
Our Department also supports the request.
