Your Committee on Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations, to which was referred
Communication No. 352 and attached Resolution No. 131-01, reports as follows:
Communication No. 352 dated September 14, 2001, is from Councilmember Leningrad Elarionoff transmitting
for Council's review and consideration Resolution No. 131-01 supporting the establishment of a National
Korean War Museum in Waikoloa, Hawaii.
Resolution No. l 31-01 states over 53,000 soldiers, many of those from Hawaii paid the ultimate price with
their lives during the Korean War. The resolution further states that a museum to permanently record the
history of this war is planned for Waikoloa, and that Mr. John K. Baldwin, in honor of his Father and Uncle,
who served during this era, donated 14 acres in this area. This museum will be unlike other monuments in the
ilnited States because it will not only memorialize these veterans, but also tell the full story of their courageous
efforts and the great significance of this mission.
Your Committee is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 131-01 and recommends its
adoption.
