Dear Councihnembers,
I am writing to ask for your support for building an irradiator here on the Big Island.
Although the crops we produce does not require treatment for fmitllys we believe that is very
important that we take this opportunity to build this irradiator. I believe that many, many agricultural
opportunities will become available. I believe that the County of Hawaii with its agricultural base has to
encourage the introduction of new exportable products which this irradiator may olfcr.
Irradiation treatment at low dose levels for quarantine processing has been proven safe. I am sure that
you bast been given volumes of information concerning the safety of food irradiation.
Please give the farmers on the Big Island an opportunity to grow and export specialty fruits and other
agricuhural products. We can not rely on existing products. We must always look for new markets, and
new produces or else we may Gnd ourselves closing down like the sugar industry.
Please support the building of the proposed irradiator. I along with our employees am counting on you
to support agriculture today and our future. Thank you.
