Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication No. 341, reports as follows:
Communication No. 341, transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim, dated September 13, 2001,
nominates Ms. Laura J. Ward of Council District 8 to serve on the Hawaii County Fire
Commission. Ms. Ward would replace Mr. Alexander Biro who resigned.
A resident of Hawaii for 34 years, Ms. Laura J. Ward is the owner of TILE IT, a ceramic the
retail business. She was formerly employed by Tile Warehouse, Inc. and Screens and Things,
Inc. She has been a coach for the AYSO and served as president of the Kona Executives
Association. Of no political party affiliation, she will serve a term to end December 31, 2004.
Pursuant to Article VI, Chapter 4, Section 6-4.5, Hawaii County Charter, there shall be a fire
commission, which shall consist of nine members...appointed by the mayor and confirmed by
the council in the manner prescribed in Section 13-4.
Your Committee on Finance recommends the confirmation of Ms. Laura J. Ward to serve on the
Hawaii County Fire Commission.
