Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication No. 356, reports as follows:
Communication No. 356, transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim, dated September 24, 2001,
nominates Mr. Glenn S. Hara and Mr. Joel W. Nye to serve on the Hawaii County Salary
Commission.
Council District 2 - A lifetime resident of Hawaii, Mr. Glenn S. Hara is a partner in the law
firm of Roehrig, Roehrig, Wilson and Hara. He has served as a Director for the Hawaii State
Bar Association and was also aPer-Diem District Court Judge. He is presently a mediator for
the Kuikahi Mediation Service and an AYSO soccer coach. A member of the Democratic Party,
he will serve a term to end December 31, 2005.
Council District 8 - A resident of Hawaii for seven-years, Mr. Joel W. Nye is self-employed in
the machinery sales business. He presently serves on the Kona Traffic Safety Committee and
has been involved with Little League baseball. A member of the Republican Party, he will serve
a term to end December 31, 2004.
Pursuant to Section 13-28, Hawaii County Charter, the salary commission shall consist of nine
members appointed by the mayor with the approval of the council.
Your Committee on Finance recommends the confirmation of Mr. Glenn S. Hara and
Mr. Joel W. Nye to serve on the Hawaii County Salary Commission.
