Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 143-01, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 143-01, transmitted by Director of Finance William Takaba, via
Communication No. 406, dated October 19, 2041, creates temporary positions for the Office of
the Prosecuting Attorney.
The Office of the Prosecuting Attorney, Community Oriented Prosecution Unit in West Hawaii
is desirous of creating a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney (Temporary) position, an Investigator V
(Temporary) position, and a Legal Clerk III (Temporary) position to implement community
oriented prosecution strategies to reduce and prevent crime and to increase community
involvement in the criminal justice process.
Funds are available through the U.S. Department of Justice, Edward Byrne Memorial State &
Local Law Enforcement Assistance Formula Grant.
Pursuant to Article V, Section 5-1.3(c), Hawaii County Charter, the Mayor has the power to
"create positions... for which appropriations have been made by the council...."
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 143-01
and recommends its adoption.
