The State Department of Transportation Public Affairs Office -Safe Community Program will be providing funds to hire security services for the Napo'opo'o Wharf during the evenings for atwo- month trial period. The grant is to minimize or eliminate calls related to alcohol and drug abuse, speeding and reckless driving, and violation of rules. Comm. 425: AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND ORDINANCE NO. 01-55, AS AMENDED, THE OPERATING (Bill 137) BUDGET FOR THE COUNTY OF HAWAII FOR THE FISCAL YEAR ENDING JUNE 30, 2002 (Appropriating an additional $128,807 in the Clandestine Dru Lg ab Program) From Director of Finance William Takaba, dated November 6, 2001, transmitting the above bill. The State of Hawaii Department of Attorney General Crime Prevention and Justice Assistance Program is providing this grant to enhance the ability of the Hawaii County Police Department to conduct aggressive, comprehensive and coordinated law enforcement activities to detect, identify, access and counter or neutralize clandestine drug manufacturing laboratories by training officers and purchasing the proper equipment. The total grant amount is $128,807 more than what is shown in the current Operating Budget. Comm. 431: AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND ORDINANCE NO. 01-55, AS AMENDED, THE OPERATING (Bill 142) BUDGET FOR THE COUNTY OF HAWAII FOR THE FISCAL YEAR ENDING JUNE 30, 2002 (Appropriating a $102,000 Violent Crime Unit Grant from the State Department of the Attorney General Crime Prevention and Justice Assistance Division); and (Res. 148-01) RESOLUTION CREATING TWO (2) POLICE EVIDENCE SPECIALIST I (TEMPORARY) POSITIONS FOR THE HAWAII COUNTY POLICE DEPARTMENT From Director of Finance William Takaba, dated November 9, 2001, transmitting the above bill and resolution. The grant funds will be used to create a Violent Crime Unit by hiring and training two evidence specialists and the construction of an evidence storage. The grant funds will be used to acquire equipment and consulting services for the Police Department's new Record Management System.
