Testimony Regarding the Irradiation T~tment Facility

Thank you for this chance to submit to ''f~1' " n r~~dl1rng the
important issue of irradition treatment.r10~iTc~1~~ the County
Council is dealing with this issue and hope you will approve what
the Mayor is trying to do.
I think 'average' citizens of our island understand the need
to have an irradiation treatment facility. Without a treatment
that takes care of the fruitfly problem we can probably forget
about selling fruits and vegetables?) outside of Hawaii.
It seems those who are against the irradiation treatment are
the same ones who are opposed to almost every economic development
project on our island. Except for those with the anti-mentality
about every kind of development, how many people are really
opposing irradiation? How many of them live and work here? How
much do they contribute to our community? How many of them vote?
The future of agriculture is important to us all. It
shouldn't be decided by anti-development people who don't
represent the majority of our residents, and it shouldn't be
decided by their friends on the mainland--no matter how much they
threaten or how many postcards they send.
Please do what you can to support the Mayor with this issue.
