HomeMy WebLinkAboutREP PC 043 10/23/2001 2000-2002 REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE ON PLANNING DATE: October 23, 2001 Re: C-378 PLACE: Councilroom TIME: 1:12 p.m. Chair and Members I-lawai`i County Council Hilo, Hawaii 96720 Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Communication No. 378 transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim dated October 10, 2001, reports as follows: Communication No. 378 recommends the appointment of the following individual to the Hawaii County Board of Appeals to serve a term ending December 31, 2005: Mr. John Joseph Langenstein, of no political affiliation, will fill a vacant position. He will be representing Council District 7. Mr. Langenstein has lived in I-lawai`i for more than 25 years and is presently self-employed as a coffee farmer and processor. He is a founding member of the Kona Farmers Alliance, past vice president of the Kona Coffee Council, past vice president of the Kona County Farm Bureau, and a past coach for the American Youth Soccer League. Pursuant to Section 5-6.3 of the Hawaii County Charter, the mayor shall appoint members of the Board of Appeals to be confirmed by the Council, as prescribed in Section 13-4 of the Hawaii County CI%arter. Mr. Langenstein's appointment to the Board of Appeals will bring their membership to six with one unfilled position remaining. Committee Member Dominic Yagong mentioned that there have been an ample number of appeals lately, especially regarding CPR's. Mr. Langenstein responded that he sees the CPR's as being abusive in the agricultural districts; whereas, he would like to see agriculture remain in the districts zoned Agriculture. Your Committee on Planning recommends the approval of the appointment of Mr. John Joseph Langenstein to the Hawai` i County Board of Appeals.
