Dear Chairman Arakaki and Council Members:
It is my pleasure to nominate the following individuals to the Hawaii County Board of Appeals.
Council ®istrict 2 ®Ms. Janice Mahuna is a lifelong resident of Hawaii and is a Realtor with
Jan Mahuna, Inc. Ms. Mahuna has served as a Hawaii County Civil Service commissioner, past
Chairwoman of the Hawaii County Board of Ethics, a member of the Professional Standards
Committee and an American Red Cross Volunteer. Ms. Mahuna states that she is not affiliated
with any political party.
If confirmed, she will serve a term to expire on December 31, 2005.
Council ®istrict 6 ®Mr. Anson Chong is a lifelong resident of Hawaii and is currently with the
University of Hawaii as an adjunct lecturer. He is also asemi-retired planner. Mr. Chong has
been active in the Fern Forest Hui (Community Association), the United Nations Association of
the USA -Hawaii, and is the currently the Secretary/Treasurerfnr the Americans United for
Separation of Church and State, Hawaii Chapter. Mr. Chong states that he is a member of the
Democratic Party. if confirmed, he will serve a term to expire on December 31, 2006.
