Resolution No. 149-01 supports Congresswoman Patsy Mink's House Resolution 1906 which authorizes the expansion of Pu'uhonua O Honaunau National Historical Park by up to 805 Acres. Communication No. 432.1 is a letter dated November 8, 2001 to Legislative Assistant Wally Iida and from Congresswoman Patsy Mink discussing the details of House Resolution 1906 and transmitting a map for the Council's use. At this meeting, members of the Committee questioned the exact location and perimeter of the 805 acres designated in the park expansion. Members requested that Councilmember Julie Jacobson secure additional information about the location, use, and current owner of all the parcels included in the expansion. Further deliberation over the use of the words in the final resolve and whether current Native Hawaiian practices would be preserved once the park is expanded also occurred. Councilmember Aaron Chung suggested more information about the purpose of House Resolution 1906 be included within the body of the Resolution 149-01. Committee members also suggested that Councilmember Julie Jacobson contemplate rephrasing the resolution resolve to include the thoughts expressed in the 1 lt" "whereas" clause, which discusses Native Hawaiian cultural practices. Your Committee on Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations is in accordance with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 149-01 and recommends its adoption. ctd AYES NOES A&E EX Respectfully submitted ARAKAKI X COIdIMIITTEE ON PUBLIC WORI{S ~ CHUNG X INTERGOVERNIVIENTAL RELATIONS ELARIONOFF X ' JACOBSON X _ C~.~ -1 LEITHEAD-TODD X Leningrad EI iono f, CI-I IR PISICCHIO X PW&lRC REPORT NO. 35 SAFARIK X TYLER X ADOPTED: D _~_~Q~.1 YAGONG X f k 1t y ~ 3,:- ~ ff kkl:, 3f t<yr':£ ttE z ..y i2 s i C. t i s r < x...£~'<i ~ k f<s{~ > 3 3' 3 3 3£i £s3,< k r s fir k k ..~i 1, r 4 rY sk f .F..'' f: rk > Ek r>~$>~~'.. 3:~ ?3y. t,$r f° '£3 'r ~1 ° vfi-lfw r''i~ :<33 ;d~ Y r f 2 3. 3rr £ tf k<r : yy k 'r <3~+<.
