evidence indicates that low frequency sonar may harm humans and marine mammals.
(1)An unusually high number of whales stranded and died off the coast of Greece around
the time a low frequency active sonar system was tested in the area. (letter,by fir.

(2)Aerial surveys showed humpback whales left an LEA test area north of Keahole
Airport in !1llarch 1998.
Three whaleswatching companies also reported that the whales left. ®ne said their songs
changed to "chaos under the water."
Three abandoned calves (one dolphin, two whale) were seen by researchers. In the nine
previous years of research in Flawaii, no one had seen an abandoned calf before.

(3)Navy divers in a study were exposed to l.~A. One diver had to be hospitalizes and
had seizures afterwards. ~-r

Naturalist Ghris Reid went into the water during the March 1998 tests. She w`~ts tti5-
mile danger zone. Sut afterwards she had trouble with coordination, balance, sp~ch,. A
doctor found trauma-like symptoms. Over the next several months, she had th~r'~id c~~or~~rs,
depression, lack of energy, nausea, and headaches.
Please note that actual sonar is 1Off,0 ternes more intense than test sonar. ~
