A RESOLUTION ENCOURAGING COMMUNITY KOKUA AND DONATIONS TO
SUPPORT THE PARTICIPATION OF BRUDDAH KUZ IN THE 8T" ANNUAL ARIZONA
ALOHA FESTIVAL
WHEREAS, Bruddah Kuz, an original island music band from Puna, has been invited to
perform at the 8th Annual Arizona Aloha Festival in Phoenix, Arizona on March 16-17, 2002 and
participate in promotional concerts and events in Arizona during the week preceding the
weekend festival; and
WHEREAS, the 8th Annual Arizona Aloha Festival, supported by the City of Phoenix, is
a free family event highlighting the cultures of Hawaii and other Polynesian Islands; and
WHEREAS, the upcoming Arizona Aloha Festival and its theme of "Stories in Stone"
will feature music and dance on both days of the event, as well as venues for food, games,
activities, crafts and arts exhibitions for an expected audience of 80,000 people; and
WHEREAS, the Arizona Aloha Festival is an established event in the Southwest,
supported by thousands of former Hawaii residents who have relocated to California, Nevada,
Arizona and New Mexico; and
WHEREAS, the Arizona Aloha Festival annually presents opportunities to generate
goodwill, interest in Hawaiian culture, and subsequent visitor travel to destinations throughout
Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, Br-uddah Kuz has won fast and well-deserved acclaim as a performing band
after the successful release of their debut CD, "Talkie.' Da Kine," featuring the popular local hit
"Pahoa Town" and other original songs written by group leader Iopa K. Maunakea; and
WHEREAS, Bruddah Kuz has demonstrated consistent commitment to performances
supporting local charities, community service events, and homecoming concerts for former
Hawaii residents on the U.S. mainland; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it hereby applauds Bruddah Kuz for its contribution as an ambassador of aloha
and the unique homegrown music of the Big Island and extends its best wishes for the band's
successful expedition to the 8th Arizona Aloha Festival.

HE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council encourages local businesses and citizens
throughout the Island of Hawaii to extend their kokua and generous financial donations to
KUZDEM Productions in order to help Bruddah Kuz fulfill its successful participation in the Stn
Annual Arizona Aloha Festival.
HE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be transmitted to Mayor
Harry Kim; Research and Development Director Jane Testa; Hawaii Tribune-Herald; West
Hawaii Today; Hawai `i Journal; and radio stations I3 97-1 FM; KAHU 1060 AM; KAPA KIPA
KISS K-Hawaii Radio; K-BIG FM 106-1 Kona/97-9 Hilo; KHLO AM 850; KKOA FM 107;
KPUA 670 AM; KWXX 94-7 FM; KWYI 106-9 YFM; and MBN Hilo 91-9FM.
