Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Communication No. 460 transmitted by
Mayor Harry Kim dated December 11, 2001, reports as follows:
Communication No. 460 recommends the appointment of the following individual to the Hawaii
County Planning Commission:
Mr. Fred Galdones, of no political affiliation, will be representing Council District 1, and
serving a term to expire on December 31, 2006.
Mr. Galdones, a 55-year resident of Hawaii, is currently employed by the IL~1VU Local
142. He has served with the State Board of Agriculture, the Hamakua Economic
Development Task Force, and the Boy Scouts of America as a Committeeman for Troop
21. He currently serves as a member of the Rural South Hilo Community Association.
Pursuant to Section 5-4.3 of the Hawaii County Charter, the mayor shall appoint members of the
Planning Commission to be confirmed by the Council, as prescribed in Section 13-4 of the
Hawaii County Charter.
Committee Member Dominic Yagong stated that he nominated Fred Galdones because he is
humble, solid and fair; and because he has a lot of aloha for the people and the aina.
Committee Member Gary Safarik stated that he knows if Mr. Galdones is faced with a potential
conflict, he would address the situation ethically.
Some other questions posed by Your Committee members were deemed inappropriate because
they did not relate to Mr. Galdones' nomination to the Planning Commission.

Galdones to the Hawaii County Planning Commission .
