SUBJECT: Transmittal of FY2002-03 Nonprofit Grant Applications and Upcoming Review
Attached please find a bound transmittal of 46 grant applications from eligible nonprofit organizations
requesting FY2002-02 grant funds from the County of Hawaii. The sum of grant requests for the
upcoming fiscal year is $1,122,579, for which the Council has $900,000 to appropriate.
This year, your Human Services and Economic Development Committee study team will conduct site
visits and/or interviews of each grant applicant during March 11-13, 2002. A schedule of our team's site
visits and interviews is attached. All interviews on March 11, 2002 will be held in the Elections Office
conference room on the 1 S` floor of the County Building; interviews on March 13`h will be conducted in
the conference room of the Mayor's Kona Office. To conduct these site visitations and fact-finding
interviews, we must observe a very tight schedule. Accordingly, I ask that any Council members who
wish to join us on site visits or participate in interviews in Hilo and Kona respect our very tight schedule.
Please have your staff notify Rory Flynn (Legislative Auditor's Office; 961-8564) if you will be joining
our study team during March 11-13, 2002.
Formal Council deliberation, including presentations from applicant agencies relating to these grant
requests, will commence during two Special Meetings of the Human Services and Economic
Development, as follows:
Thursday, March 21, 2002 King Kamehameha Kona Beach Hotel, Conference Room 4 (KONA) ~
10:00 a.m.
~ ~
Monday, April 1, 2002 Councilroom, Hawaii County Building (RICO) ~ ~
