Re: Operating Budget
Enclosed is a bill for an ordinance amending the Operating Budget by
appropriating a $11,893 HCFD Equipment Purchase Grant. The Federal
Department of `Transportation through the State Department of Transportation
State and Community Highway Safety Program is providing these funds to
purchase seventeen (17) 24-volt reciprocating saws with accessories. The new
equipment will reduce injury and mortality to victims pinned in automobile
accidents by reducing the extrication times.

Prepare a resolution to accept a grant entitled "HCFD Equipment Purchase" of $11,893.

B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED):
The Hawaii County Fire Department has been awarded a grant for $11,893 from the Federal Department of
Transportation through the State of Hawaii Department of Transportation -State and Community Highway
Safety Program. The grant period is 10/01 /01 - 09/30/02.
The funds will be used to purchase 17 24-volt reciprocating saws with accessories. The new equipment will
reduce injury and mortality to victims pinned in automobile accidents by reducing extrication times using the
new saws.

Enclosed for your action is a copy of the approved highway safety reimbursement
project No. EM02-0~ (02-H-O1), entitled "HCFP Equipment Purchase." A total of

Progress reports must be submitted quarterly within 15 days (ending May, August and

agreement (monthly or quarterly) by the 20th of the month following the claim period.
