Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Bill No. 168, reports as follows:
Bill No. 168, transmitted by Director of Finance William Takaba, via Communication No. 502,
dated January l 6, 2002, amends Ordinance No. 01-56, as amended, the Capital Budget, ending
June 30, 2002, by adding the: following project:
PARKS AND RECREATION:
Ahalanui/Pohoiki Bay Park Improvements 110-599-5590.31 $1,071,235
Funds for this project shall be provided from general obligation bonds, capital projects fund-fund
balance and/or other sources.
Funds will be used for the construction of infrastructure, pavilions, picnic facilities, restrooms,
parking facilities, pedestrian pathways, and other beach park facilities. The Ahalanui and
Pohoiki Bay ~.reas serve as .the replacement park sites to the Kaimu-Kalapana area recreational
facilities, which were destroyed by the Kilauea lava flow.
Funding sources include unencumbered funds from Pohoiki Park (Ordinance No. 99-71) and
Ahalanui/Pohoiki Park Development (Ordinance No. 00-33), appropriations that would
otherwise lapse on June 30, 2002.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Bill No. 168 and
recommends it pass first reading.
